august

Sun Aug 19, 2007, 10:47 PM
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: frank levin, alive composer extra-ordinaire
  • Reading: the rumblestiltzkin problem
  • Watching: the joy luck club
  • Eating: (to)fu
  • Drinking: tea
(start) Wishing everyone a summer worth writing about. Thought that august is as good a month as any to get some features and discussion up for grabs.

(one) So, I was away for six days camping up north past Whistler; up to see the chilcotins (think of chocolate mountains dusted with confectioner's snow, dotted with pistachio trees and minnowed streams) and starry revelations of the night. A lot of the time was spent hiking around with our leaded packs on, applying yet another layer of deet, and sharing life experiences. I learned a lot, so I guess this is my chance to advertise the joys of hiking to yall! And by the way, I got around 134 mosquito bites. Seriously.

(two) Any oxymoronical 'unbiased opinions'? I'd be interested to hear your views on religion: if you have one, what it means to you, how you practice it, and opinions on people of different spiritual persuasions etc etc. What role does religion have on humanity and morals? How deeply does it permeate our daily lives? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

(three) Some people just deserve that pat on the back. More than I originally thought, so here's a few to start off the hungry looker-on:

[link] Mister bad guy's work is always thought-provoking and conceptual, with that modern twist and occasional minimalism that just makes your eyes/mouth water.

[link] Good ol'Eddie. Innovative, funny, and saturated with pink! I was trying to decide between this little strip and masquerade, but settled for a future reference to the end of the world.

[link] One of my favourite works by this prolific artist. You have to admit, there's nothing quite like it! Reimer's atmosphere, use texture, and back-to-front familiarity with colour is just stunning.

[link] Just read the artist's comments. Such deep depth and profound understanding of love, especially when found in a brick wall!

(end) so ... that's it folks! onslaught of feedback and comments strongly encouraged!

wow that sounds good. I don't think I will be up for hike like that though, unless there was a portable toilet or something hehe. But what you have described sounds so wonderful....

I play Heavy and just punch the shit out of all the Scouts i see.
:iconarachibutyrophobic:
yes, the view and winds were most definitely rewarding. we dug individual cat holes with the shovel to use as toilets ... and it was much more sanitary than using the outhouse down the lane!

i hope you had a chance to check out the features?

it rains.
:iconarachibutyrophobic:
are you blocked for ideas, or busy at life?
(yes, i have returned from the dead.) :)

I did actually and I found the works of =joereimer very fascinating. His choice of colors are simply unique and the way all of his work seems sort of melancholic with so many colors are very interesting indeed.

i'm glad you got to discover another fellow artist. the emotions in his pieces are very well perceived by the viewer, not only through form, but by the sheer contrast of colours in his palette.

(:

Wow! were the mosquitoes that bad?
:iconadriandomenico:
OK!

Lovely journal. Love the links. Do more. I really like your eye on these.

As for religion, this is adrianDOMENICO, you will have to wait until I have finished the epistle that will follow! :D

:iconstuckinzen:
eh, woo.
and, uh, congratulations. (don't ask on what; i'm sure you've done something horrendously prolific in the last few minutes either way...)

and, the only other thing i can relpy to (aside from how much and how easily i fail to enjoy camping and hiking) is religion. and um, my response is that it's bunk. ask whichever one and only god you want for details. he'll (we know it's a he because the pope says so. he also says you can't connect with god through an electric guitar) get back to you as soon as possible. (well, now i apologize you devout people out there. clearly i'm one for blaspheming and am a hopeless heretic. i'm sorry. please don't get mad at me or burn me at the stake, or stick one through my heart, nail me to a tree, throw holy water on me, tie a rock to me and throw me into a lake, or declare a jihad on me, cuz i don't like feuds. they take forever to solve. if you want, you can get your local deity to smite me though..
